DELF / DALF

Alliance Française Halifax is among the few accredited examination centres for tests and diplomas certified by the French government and internationally recognized in Nova Scotia.
The DELF (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française) and the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are official diplomas awarded by the French National Ministry of Education to certify the competency of candidates for whom French is a second language.
The DELF and the DALF are composed of six independent diplomas corresponding to the six levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL):
- A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2.
- You DELF or DALF diploma is valid for life.
Examination dates are offered at specific times during the year and determined by the French National Ministry of Education. Please find the examination calendar below to know when is the next date offered.
At each level, four skills are evaluated: listening - speaking - reading - writing.
To determine which test level to take, please consult with the institutions’ requirements. You may use our self-assessment tool Ev@lang to determine what level you currently have in order to help you choose the right level test.

A DELF or DALF certificate provides you with international recognition of your French proficiency and is valid for life.
If you are seeking a desirable employment opportunity with a French-speaking company the DELF or DALF certificate can be the key to helping you stand out as an employable candidate.
A DELF certificate may be required when applying to French post-secondary institutions. Here in Canada, certain post-secondary institutions with French programs may require a DELF certificate upon registration.
Finally, a DELF certificate can help you validate your language skills on your learning journey.
The DELF Prim can be your child’s first French diploma and show them that they can actually speak French and boost their confidence.
